Ophidiophobia.

There's no animal that I hate more than snakes. This stems from my immense fear of snakes, without a doubt my biggest fear-- I am more afraid of snakes than I am of ghosts! -_-

In fact, my phobia used to be way worse in the past; I couldn't even touch a rubber snake without shuddering. I simply refused to touch anything snake-printed. And lord behold if you tried to dangle a snake-printed bag in front of me.

Oh my, what a long way I've come.

Hui Wen, spotted in snake print! :O :O :O

Well, snake prints are making a ferocious statement on runways, and has persuaded me to overcome my fear. (Of prints only!!! I am still scared shit of snakes).

The funny story is that I actually bought the top off Teeny! We were packing our stuff for the Old Blossom Box sale last month, and I spotted this top in her 'to sell' pile-- I've been looking for something with a snake print, so instantly a sale was made in the Hoe household, haha.

It was an excruciatingly hot day, so I kept my outfit very fuss-free:

Found these old heels, which seemed very apt for the minimalistic heels trend that is making a come back, so off we went!

Am still looking for very very simple heeled sandals: one strap in the front, one strap around the ankle; that's it. The only place I can find them is Zara, and I don't want to pay RM400 for such simple shoes!! *wails*

Using the black Furla clutch that you've seen here. Unfortunately, I've lost it.. in the depts of my room! I can't find it anywhere. Really upset, because I love the look of a simple clutch nowadays. :(

Anyone in the States want to help me buy the American Apparel clutch? I'll love you forever.

Recently, I've been really upset because I found out that one of the new friends I've made recently is going through a relapse of leukemia.

With the strong and inspring Ami at the Dior Easter Party.

She is one of the most positive, cheerful, and toughest cookie I've ever met. So, please go to her blog and spread some love, drop her an encouraging message, share a funny story-- make her smile. And most importantly, I am imploring you, if you have a moment, say a prayer for her, for this lady who is such an inspiration to us all. Thank you!

It's all in the name.

One of the birthday presents I've received recently:

A personalized name necklace from Ally! Love it to bits, I've been wearing it almost every time I go out. I've contemplated getting one for myself in the past, but somehow I stopped myself because I thought it might be a tad narcissistic. But now Ally solved the problem for me! :P

I couldn't help wishing though that my name was.. more beautiful-sounding..Or exotic, or even cute. 'Hui Wen' doesn't quite have the oomph. -_-

Though my name (in Chinese) is actually very pretty! And I think it describes me to a T, hehe. My 'Hui' chinese character stands for wisdom/intelligence, whereas 'Wen' in the Chinese dictionary literally means beautiful rainbow. I think I've quite a vibrant personality, and I bring colors into people's life. So yep, beautiful rainbow. ;)

What does your name means? :)

Outfit in a random Pavilion outing (I've been showing face in Pavilion quite often recently -_-):

Had my hair up because I was having a bad hair day! Consequences of sleeping with your hair still wet.

And some of you might recognize this skirt here--I got a few colors! :P

Itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini.

That's the song that starts playing in my head when I look at this yellow floral romper of mine. :P

I had 3 outfits on for my birthday, going for 3 quite different looks: a silk floral belted trench dress for lunch, happy floral romper for tea, and a classic black dress for the night.

In this post, I am wearing a bright colorful floral romper that my mom got for me from her Macau/Zhuhai trip along with this and this. Without fail, every birthday I will wear something bright to put me in the mood!

Outfit details:

I love the hole at the back of the romper! Unfortunately, the romper is really short and has a flared hem (so it actually looks like a dress), so it's butt-cheek alert. -_- I wore a pair of cute crotchet lace shorts underneath to prevent any wardrobe malfunctions though.

Pale yellow floral chiffon backless romper with ruffled bell sleeves: Gift from mom
Gold leaf necklace: Holiday in Korea
Stacked gem rings: Holiday in Korea
Red suede pumps: Zara
Bag: Chanel

Took a picture with a Marc Jacobs set-up because... it's the only Marc Jacobs thing that came out of the day. T_T The Marc by Marc Jacobs Bianca clutch that I wanted is completely sold out everywhere! Malaysia.. Singapore.. and on the World Wide Web. T__________________T

Anyway, some of you were asking me on FB how many things did I actually received from my wishlist... I did cross off some! Not my Bianca though, obviously. *sniff*. I will blog about them soon! :)

Post-birthday blues.

Well, not really, haha.
But I kind of feel like I'm on the verge of falling sick for the past few days.
Not a good timing, especially when I suddenly remembered I've got my CPA exam next Thursday. -_-

My last paper, woohoo! Also the hardest. Not that that would worry me. But that being said, I really should start studying. -_-

I even told my 2 best friends yesterday that they have to send me daily text messages each to remind me to study. -__-

An outfit from early this month, wearing the green shorts I wore here:

Wearing a silk blazer that I've been meaning to wear for sometime, but never got the chance to.

Silk floral blazer: Made in Korea
Ribbed henley shirt: Valleygirl, Australia
Green shorts: Zara
Gold watch necklace: Topshop
Sand-colored leather heels: Wittner, Australia
Gold jewel clutch: Miss Selfridge

I think an early night is in order today. Am really exhausted, especially after the Dior Easter party today. Had the most awesome truffle chocolates there! <3

One year older,

But in a better place than I've ever been before. :)

On a sidenote, I managed to cross 2 things off my wishlist! There was another one which I could cross off, but it's sold out EVERYWHERE, fml. :(
Anyway, guess which ones are they? :P

Birthday Wishlist 2011.

Threw on something simple for an impromptu session of coffee + cake.

I love Coffeebean's Chicago Cheesecake! Totally dig the lemony zest. The only other citrus-based cheesecake that I love as much is the one that Jaclyn baked for us when we used to stay together. *heart* In fact, she has taught me how to make it once!

Babe, can drop me the recipe again? Hehe.

Because my outfit was kind of simple, I went crazy with accessories:

Marble-like rosette bracelet and gold bamboo bangle: Topshop/ Pearl bracelets: Everywhere

Enamel brass bangle: One of my sister's/ White stone bangle: Holiday in Zhuhai

I LOVE the white vintage top, uppercase for emphases. The detailing is stunning; I love how the pleats are folded to look like shells adorning my collarbone, and the pleats fall softly at the hem. LOVE, I repeat!

And when you turn to the back, there's another the surprise! There's this collar detail on the back, so I can actually choose to wear the top the other way around, and let the pleats speak for themselves at the back. ;)

Outfit:

White silk top with shell-like pleated chiffon: Vintage
Ripped denim shorts: Holiday in Korea

Patent cream/black platform heels: Wittner, Australia
Black pony hair/leather clutch: Furla

Since my birthday is coming up, I thought I am going to be silly and narcissistic, and make a birthday wishlist! This is for the sake of my family and friends who don't know what to get me WTF. Especially FAMILY (*cough* SISTERS who have ignored every single one of my furious hints *ahem*)

1. Canon 550D

I've been talking about getting a DSLR for ages, and I think I am finally ready to take the plunge. Hence, on the top of my list is a DSLR camera, specifically a Canon-550D. I've done some scouting around, and I am quite sure this is the one I want! BUT I don't know which lens to get to go with it. Any advise/ recommendations? :)

2. Bianca clutch from Marc by Marc Jacobs

Picture credits to The Blonde Salad.

I was this close to getting this! But it's sold out on most online sites! T_____________T Buying it from the store in KL will cost way more, so I am still thinking about it.*sniff*

3. YSL double-loop leather bracelet

Yes, in this exact shade. I am crazy over pink, didn't I tell you? :P

Actually I just want a wrist accessory that I can wear as a staple... A Balenciaga bracelet would be good too. *dreamy eyes*

4. Fifi Lapin's 'What Shall I Wear Today?'

A fun fashion book for me to go through!

5. MAC lipsticks

You guys may notice that I've been trying out more lip colors recently-- I would love to expand my collection, thank you!

6. Fashion Encyclopedia

I saw this book in Borders sometime ago; it's a book that really list out the ABCs of fashion, from different types of fabric to what is a dart... I wanted to buy it on the spot, but I was in my thrifty mood, and I didn't. I can't remember the exact name of the book though, it's Encyclopedia something something. Not very helpful, I know, haha.

7. YSL Chyc clutch/ handbag

I can't find the exact picture of what I want.. Basically it's this color combination in a clutch version OR this handbag design in a juicy hot pink color. Both totally out of my price range, but a girl can dream, okay?

8. Accessories

If you know me well enough, you'll know that I love my accessories. To death. You will never go wrong with buying accessories for me. Unless you shop from Above or Sinma wtf. I am coveting designer accessories... BAD HUI WEN!

Elizabeth and James.

Low Luv x Erin Wasson.

Bvlgari b zero1 ring.

Catbird customised alphabet rings.

The last picture was posted by Teeny on Facebook yesterday. I love personalised jewelry. And don't be fooled by me, I am a sucker for dainty accessories too!

As you can see, my taste in accessories has a wide range. I'm a accessories hoarder. A proud one.

9. Spa/ Massages

Vouchers/ Discounts/ Packages all welcomed! My aching body will thank you. Manicures/pedicures/ hair spa are a bonus too, heh.

10. FOOD

When all else fail, just go back to Maslow Hierarchy of Needs, and tickle one of my biggest passion! Food vouchers, recipe books, food books, or just bring me for hearty meal; I will love you.

Back-up plan: Vouchers from Topshop/ Zara/ ASOS. You can never go wrong with that. ;)
