Taepung.

Hello, as you all may know, I am in Korea now!

The day before, I was really tired, and was looking forward to falling in a deep, uninterrupted sleep. Alas, sleep was elusive to me as there were really strong winds howling outside. The wind was just hitting the walls outside really hard, making it very difficult to sleep peacefully. I am talking about strong howling winds that seemed to shook the hotel... I felt like the entire building was going to be blown away! :O Also, the winds were so powerful that even a couple of plastic bags that I had lying on the floor were moving. -__- Do you know how scary is that wtf.

I then tweeted jokingly that maybe I should check with the hotel whether there is a typhoon outside. And shortly after that, I received a barricade of tweets asking me, "Ya, there is a typhoon in Seoul now, you don't know meh?"

FML.

I quickly did a Google search, only to find out that indeed there was a typhoon, Typhoon Bolaven, which hit Seoul (more details here). Apparently there were a few people who died at the sea already in the morning, and there are more people lost at the sea. I saw a picture of the typhoon (below), and I gulped nervously.

Gulp.

My immediate thought was, fuck, how am I going to finish my work in Seoul. And my second thought was, what if the typhoon doesn't let up and I am forced to miss my flight home. T___T

I needed to go out that day to run bank errand, so the boyfriend was advising me to buy an umbrella. At that same time, my dad emailed me and asked me to not buy an umbrella during a typhoon and get a raincoat instead. The men in my life. Haha.

I basically kept myself captive in my room during the day, and on-and-off I would check the weather conditions outside. It was raining intermittently, but the winds were continuously blowing fiercely. From my room I could actually get a pretty good view of the subway station, and I noticed that the subway service was still running and there were people in the station-- a good sign. I then made a decision to go out to the bank.

Immediately when the rain let up a little, I ran out-- without an umbrella, I might add. I bought one at a nearby convenience store, and being a smart-ass, I got the cheapest one. A super strong gush of wind blew towards my direction (it was so strong that it was difficult to move forward), and I sort of angled my umbrella forward to block the wind. Before I knew, it, 'crack!', and my umbrella was broken. All within a grand total of 5 minutes of owning the umbrella. -_-

Anyway, I successfully completed what I wanted to do at the bank. Aside from the super fierce winds, I think the typhoon wasn't as bad as I imagined. I mean, I lived to tell the tale! wtf.

And that concludes my first ever typhoon experience.

PS: Prior to this, my only experience with typhoons is the Typhoon Shelter noodles with pork chop in Kim Gary WTF. It is very yummy, by the way.

PPS: Taepung is typhoon in Korean. Some kind souls tweeted me the translation on my Twitter! Thank you, I love you guys!

adidas Breathe and Stop.

Sponsored post

Recently, I had the honor of being invited to a very special adidas Originals event.

Adidas Originals got three of hip hop’s most influential DJs and the country’s best dance crews to set Kuala Lumpur ablaze as one of the destinations of its ‘Breathe and Stop’ tour. The Breathe and Stop tour, which takes place in five of SEA’s most iconic cities, kicked off in Bangkok on August 4th, and had Kuala Lumpur as the second stop.

On 10 Aug, as part of the Malaysian leg, fans were treated to an exclusive meet and greet with the DJs at the adidas Originals Concept Store in KLCC. And I was so lucky to be one of them! I know of many people who would loved to be in my shoes. :)

When I said exclusive meet and greet, I really meant it! We really got to get upclose and personal with three of hiphop’s most influential DJs:

Shortkut (from San Francisco), MASEO, and Ali Shaheed Muhammed (both from NYC).

I am going to briefly run you guys through the sheer brilliance of these DJs!

MASEO.

MASEO is a grammy award winning MC, DJ and Producer for the legendary hip hop group - DE LA SOUL, which has have received Soul Train, MTV, and Grammy award nominations. He has co-produced some of the most iconic hip hop albums of all time and is world renown as a heavy weight party rocker, which is not surprising at all, if you watch the video below:

We are always complaining that clubs in KL don’t play good music, and aaah, when I saw this video, I was like, THIS IS WHAT WE NEED!

Shortkut.

Shortkut is the founding member of 3 of the most iconic and influential DJ crews in history - Invisble Skratch Pickles, World Famous Beat Junkies and Triple Threat. He has claimed numerous titles, notably the 1994 and 1998 US/West Coast DMC Championships (watch the video below for one of his routines for the DMC Championship).

Shortkut’s contribution to the DJ world and culture is unparalleled, and in 2007, he celebrated 20 years as a DJ, producer, DJ equipment designer, and battle champion. 20 years! 20 years ago I didn’t even know what is a turntable wtf.

Ali Shaheed Muhammed.

Ali Shaheed Muhammed is grammy award winning DJ & producer, and one of the most notable mention of him, is that he is a founding member of the legendary hip hop group-- A TRIBE CALLED QUEST. He has also created some of the most influential albums in hip hop history, and has also remixed songs for Janet Jackson Maxwell, Maroon 5and KRS-One!

It is easy to see why he is a crowd favorite:

Some pictures from the meet and greet session:

Autographed postcards! Yes, the three DJs also gave out autographs for their fans during the session.

I felt like a papparazi, snapping behind-the-scene photos of the dancers that will perform in Stage (where the DJs will be spinning), hehe.

I spy Ashley, with her super cool hair!

Adidas Originals Breathe and Stop. :)

Dancers having a pep talk. Loving the energy!

I like this picture—check out the hug in the middle. It’s like ‘we are homies yo!’, hehe.

With Ashley, her boyfriend, and Joshua.

I also took some style shots during the event:

Major girl crush on her! Love the hair, the shaved sidecut, the gold accessories, everything!

All the dancers dressed really well. I like the exaggerated racer back of the girl’s blank tank—sexy!

Happy corals tick all the boxes for me.

Aah, another girl crush! She is so sassy and spunky, and love her dimples. And damn, looking at her abs, I wish I picked up dancing. T_T

Sneakily put in my own narcisstic style shots hehe:

Wearing lemon peplum top from AZORIAS with batik print shorts, and some neon colored accessories.

Tada, there’s a surprise to the back of my peplum top!

After the session, there was a dance showdown where awards will be handed out for the best individual performance, best teamwork, best crew and best outfit of the night. Local DJs also spinned and added some Malaysian flavor in the night’s local edition of ‘Breathe and Stop’.

For more photos of the Breathe and Stop event, check out their Facebook page here.

Now if you will excuse me, I am going to listen to tracks that are spinned by the guys below!

Weekend workfit.

Did a stocktake for the office over the Raya weekend as we were long due for one, and it was the best time to do it due to the halting of shipping during the long weekend (i.e. no movement of stocks).

Decided to wear something light and easy. For some reason, I decided that lace was appropriate. :P

Sorry for the shitty pictures, I didn't bring a camera out 'cause it was supposed to be work! T_T

Wearing a sheer lace peplum top (with inner slip) and that's my new iPhone case! I have an obsession with dressing up my phone.

Comfy flats as we were on our feet a lot for that day.
The fur on my shoes' bows is from my dog FML.

Ivory sheer lace peplum (and slip): AZORIAS
Denim shorts: Valleygirl
Pearl cluster and rope n
ecklace: Jing's
Patent slippers with grosgrain bows: Korea

I will be going off to Korea tomorrow. A hectic week awaits me!

"Today's outfit", or so it says.

I will be the first to raise my hands and declare that I hate jeans.

Yes, I know it's an evergreen (everblue har har har I am so witty wtf) piece, it's classic, it goes with anything and everything, it's comfy and effortless... But it's just so impractical in our climate! Especially due to my height, I find that skinnies are the the most flattering cut on me-- but walking around in skinny jeans in our humid weather is just a nightmare.

Hence, lately, I have discovered a love for pants. Chinos and tapered pants in varying colors and fabrics are just so much more comfortable! And just as easy to style as jeans. :)

One of the ways I wore a pair of hot pink pants recently:

Wore this to meet Audrey, Bobo and Ringo for dinner. This was way before Audrey's wedding, and now she is a Mrs already! :D

H&M tank from Tokyo. Teeny and I both got one respectively!

Wore my pants lightly cuffed at the hems so that I appear taller, hehe. Went with varying shades of pinks/ fuchsias to complement the pants. Love it so much! Have definitely been wearing it too often. :/

'Today's outfit' tank: H&M
Hot pink tapered pants: AZORIAS
Black diamante necklace: Korea
Bangles: F21/ Holiday in Zhuhai
Rings: Korea
Leopard print ponyhair pumps: Jennifer Lopez
Fuchsia ponyhair zipper clutch: Balenciaga

Chatchuchak, Bangkok.

Since it is a luxurious long weekend ahead, I thought I'd get to do a long post! And what better way to get me into a blogging mood than talking about shopping in Bangkok. :) So here you go, our visit to Chatchuchak market during my Bangkok trip in June!

It was a Sunday (the second day of our trip), and Sundays always mean Chatchuchak market for us.

The day started with waking up to an awesome view of Bangkok city (the room is circular, giving an incredible almost 360 degrees view).

Then we adjourn to the hotel cafe/ restaurant for one of the most spectacular hotel breakfasts I have ever had. Wild honey dripping from a real honeycomb, breads and rolls of all imaginable types, being shoved into a real wood oven after you have make your selections, arrays of colorful juices that sparkle like psychedelic rainbows under the sun (it was near the poolside)...

Look at how full Teeny's mouth is wtf. And I had carrot juice with a dash of fresh milk. It was, undoubtedly, the BEST carrot juice I have ever had. Sigh.

You know how some people are really camera-sensitive? Well, my brother is the opposite. You can shove a camera into his face, and he is still oblivious and choose to give you ugly/ unflattering faces. -__-

My mom tried to get him to pose properly for a picture, but obviously failed FHL.

Had a little porridge with some meat floss. So yummy! And so easy too. Next time I am going to cook a big pot of plain porridge for my children and just let them eat with meat floss. #badmother

Teeny's creepy Nutella grin.

Family potrait-- love it when it is complete. :)

Another one more at the hotel lobby, while waiting for the hotel shuttle to pick us up. Which picture is your favorite? :P

And then we reached Chatchuchak! Which is possibly my favorite place to shop in Bangkok. To be honest, I think you need a full day in Chatchuchak to walk to your heart's content, but for the Hoe family, we always have a deadline of up to 1-2pm 'cause my dad wants to go somewhere far away for lunch. -__- Shops at Chatchuchak open at about 10am, so typically we only have 3 hours at the market-- which means we always need to be incredibly efficient! But by now we are quite familiar with what are the 'good' areas to shop-- usually we just hit Section 3 of the market, and it's enough for us to go bankrupt already WTF.

Gung-ho faces the moment we reached Chatchuchak!
And trust me to pose wrongly and looked like I was going to uppercut my own face FML.

We actually went in a big group-- with my mom's best friend and her family, and her (the best friend) sister and her family. Altogether there was 13 of us! We went everywhere in 3 cabs. :D

Fresh coconuts! You must try the coconut ice cream-- I think there are a couple of stalls which sell them.

Me with my favorite accessory-- Thai milk tea WTF.

There's this particular stall which I love, I *think* it's somewhere in Section 3, but I can't be sure! I know how to get there, but I don't know its exact address, so sorry! :( But I did try to dig out my old posts for pictures of the stall, it's really colorful and pretty, so it's quite recognizable!

Pictures from June 2010, hope they help you to recognize the stall. :/

Teeny's pretty neon lace skirt. So gorgeous I don't even.

Oops accidentally intruded into a puppy's private moment wtf.

Someone call the police! I am wearing, gasp, sneakers.

I bought this dress from Melbourne before I graduated, i.e. sometime in 2007, but I have never worn it before! Somehow I found it a little too girlie for my taste (my style in 2007 is decidedly quite different from my style today), but for this trip, I decided it was apt with sneakers and some spikes on my neck and wrist. :P

Love the wooden decorative pieces/ hanging trees of this shop! So tempted to get a few for my room for my accessories, but they are quite heavy. Also, we are currently contemplating to shift office for AZORIAS-- I so wish I got them for the office! T_T

Shaved ice with coconut milk... Kinda taste like an icy bubur cha cha. LOVE.

Jing's feet.

I have a funny story to share! When Jing was back in KL, she went on a vicious hunt around the city to look for flats for Bangkok. One day, she came home to tell me that she got the perfect flats (pictured above) from Topshop, but actually I have the same pair-- from Topshop too!

Sisters. :P

Taking a time-out by having a quick lunch at one of the stalls. Everything was yummy-- I don't think I have ever tasted bad food in Bangkok. :O

Spied from an overhead bridge. While Bangkok's jams are atrocious, the pretty colors of all the cabs and public transport never fail to make the girl in me to go 'aww'.

Some apothecary-like place that smells all calming and relaxing. WHICH I DON'T APPRECIATE! 'Cause shopping in Chatchuchak is like a race, no time to chill out ok wtf.

Everything on Jing is from AZORIAS.

The night before we left for Bangkok, just like any night before a family trip, we were frantically running around our house, finding clothes, trying on outfits, trying to lend something from someone wtf... Jing wanted to wear this tropical scarf print shorts, but have no top to go with it-- a situation all women can empathize with wtf. She was feeling sensitive of her thighs 'cause she claimed she put on weight, so I immediately thought of this black dip hem top! Black (slimming color wtf) - check, longer hem to cover the butt - check, matches the shorts - check. She was really happy with my choice!

Jing's outfit:
Dip hem top with spiked shoulders: AZORIAS
Tropical scarf print shorts: AZORIAS (ivory)
Beaded sandals: Topshop
Quilted bag: Ralph Lauren

And my outfit!

Wearing my new neon bag from See by Chloe (birthday present!) and some neon spiked bracelets. :)

White floral cutout ruffled sleeve dress: Melbourne
Gold spiked necklaces: Korea
Neon colored spiked bracelets: Korea
White leather sneakers with navy toecaps: Korea
Bag: See by Chloe
